What is Supply Chain Management? |
 |
| |
Supply chain management integrates business functions concerned with the movement of goods, services and information along the supply chain with the goal of creating value for the ultimate customer. The field of supply chain management is a cross-functional discipline involving many components of business, including marketing, logistics, operations, warehousing, inventory, transportation and the management of relationships between business organizations and their channels of distribution. In today’s complex business environment there is a need to coordinate marketing, production and logistics, not only within the firm, but also with business partners and customers. Frequently, firms are recognizing the need for a “total cost” or “systems” approach to supply chain management. As a result, decision making cuts across many functional areas and is an increasingly crucial strategic component of successful business, large and small. |
