What is Sports Management?

The development of sports in India and particularly in the Eastern part on India has attracted a lot of interest in the public as well as in sponsors. Sports are being considered as serious full-time occupation. This has given rise to a debate about the need for better professionalism in sports. Professional management and administration of sports will help in the growth of both sports as well as sportsman. The changing times have meant that the sports bodies are increasingly under the scanner not only from the Media but also from the followers of sports as well as various regulatory bodies. With increasing financial involvement in sports there will be a greater need to introduce professional managers in sports. This can be done by either upgrading the knowledgebase of existing managers or creating a new breed of professional managers.

What do you learn in this course?

This degree is aimed at those students committed to the provision, development, management, and administration of sports. The degree is distinctive in drawing together management theory and business principles, and applying them to study of sport. Financial management and marketing, facility planning and design, operations and human resource development and policy development explored along with commercial aspects of sports, including advertising, product endorsement and other forms of sponsorship. The programme also aims at providing hands on exposure in field activities like basics of Coaching , Emergency Procedure – CPR on grounds, spectator management, sports nutrition, media management , event planning, regulation etc. The student will also be trained on communication skills, public speaking and computers. Some of the subjects which are taught in the course are Organization & Management in sports, Foundation of Amatuer and Prof. Sports, Principles of Management, English Language & Communication, Sports Managerial accounting, Sports Coaching Methodology, Contemporary Issues in Sports, Financial Management in sports, Sports Nutrition, Statistics, Sports Strength and Conditioning, Basics of sports Medicine, Sociology of Sports, Sports Law and risk management, Leadership Principles in Sports, Sports Facilities Management, Spectator Management and Sports Federation participation.

Graduates can embark upon a career in the diverse field of sports management. This might be in the public, commercial, or sports organization; ranging from state level to national level organizations and bodies which promote and direct sport at the highest level,. Graduates from this field of study can expect to pursue careers in sports –related areas, for example, marketing, sponsorship, sport development, administration and media, facility recreation management and education and training.

What is the duration of the course?

WBUT’s Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management is a 3-years, full-time course.

What is the eligibility for the course?

Although the basic eligibility for conducting the programme is [10+2], there is an additional requirement for the candidate to have a very keen involvement in sports. Candidates selected will be required to demonstrate good presentation and language skills.

What is the admission procedure?

Admissions are as per the norms laid down by WBUT / Management of George Group of Colleges.

Fees for the course comprise:

Admission Fees (one-time) : Rs. 8,000/-

Tuition Fees (per semester): Rs. 27,500/-

Caution Deposit (one-time): Rs. 8,000/-

(Caution Deposit refundable after completion of the course).
